Spam email causes blacklisting. Computer Services re-routes mail to keep it flowing

Last night, between 6:30 and 7 p.m., a large volume of spam emails was sent from a Missouri State email account. This has resulted in one of the IP addresses for our email system being blocked by a number of email blacklists.

Missouri State University Computer Services moved quickly to disable the account so no more spam would be sent from it. We have already contacted the blacklist providers and will be removed from them at midnight tonight (Wednesday, September 25th). In addition, we have moved to our secondary email system IP address, so no interruption in email delivery should occur. We have also tuned our email security appliance using data gathered last night to better prevent this sort of problem from occurring in the future.

If you experience any problems with your email, please do not hesitate to contact the Computer Services Help Desk.
