Did you know that many of the computing resources available on-campus are also available off-campus? In many instances you may still be able to access information and resources you need from off-campus through your home computer. These pages offer details about setting up and making proper off-campus connections to the University's computer network.
Dialup gives computer users the ability to connect to the Missouri State campus network, the Internet, and other on-campus computing resources by using your local phone line and a device called a modem.
Passport makes it possible for your off-campus computer to securely connect to Missouri State's on-campus computing network. While most internet sites (i.e. web sites, web-based email, etc.) are available using only your dialup or broadband connection, on-campus resources like network storage space require additional security to access. To access on-campus resources from home, you must install and use Passport in addition to using an internet connection.
With internet content becoming more graphical and video-based, many are switching to a high-speed connection, called broadband, as their preferred off-campus way to connect to the Missouri State campus network, the internet, and other on-campus computing resources.
Once you have dialup or broadband access and VPN client setup on your home computer, many on-campus resources become available remotely. To access these resources securely, a step-by-step connection protocol is required.
